SJCam SJ7 Star Unboxing and Review

Unboxing

Full Review

The SJ7 Star comes with a whole host of accessories, all of decent quality. Accessories between action cams are fairly standard so we’re going to fast forward through this section: note that the important basics are included, sticky mounts, handlebar mounts, and right-angle adapters.

This camera is available on both Amazon USA and Amazon Canada. If you are ok with importing for yourself, Gearbest has this cam cheaper. Check it out here.

SJCam SJ360+ Review

Hardware and Unboxing

Video Samples

The SJCam SJ360+ has a decent design with a form factor that doesn’t require a mobile phone – but that’s about all it has going for it. Unfortunately SJCam chose internal hardware that is only capable of low quality 360 videos, and the result is an output that looks similar to a early 2000s cellphone. In anything but the best light, aggressive noise reduction kicks in and removes any detail. Still photos suffer similarly.

Overall the SJ360+ feels  rushed to market and unfinished. I highly recommend a minimum of 4K for 360-degree video, with 8K being the ideal. I have not tested it yet but video samples from other reviewers make the Mijia 3.5K Panorama Camera seem like a promising budget choice.

SJCam SJ6 Legend Air Unboxing

Unboxing

To me this camera is kind of the spiritual successor to the SJ5000x Elite. It’s got a nicer build, smaller body, and a touch screen while maintaining the resolutions of the SJ5000x. It’s kind of hard to think about who exactly SJCam is targeting with this one though since it’s outside of the super budget category but not real 4K. At least SJCam doesn’t lie about its resolution though.

With a good build quality and great gyro, once the bugs are worked out this will probably bee one of the better cameras available. Many Chinese companies release their products in a “beta” state and iron out issues as users bring them up… The SJ6 Air reminds me of the Mijia camera, where it feels like it has not yet reached its full potential.

I look forward to the update. Full review coming soon.

All of these cameras are so close and the differences in how they process video are so minimal, that what you should look for while watching is which camera processes exposure more appealingly to you, which camera has the most appealing audio to you and which cameras user interface will work best for you. No matter which you buy you’ll end up with a camera that has decent video quality.

SJCam M20 vs Gitup Git2 Pro

It’s difficult to choose between these two cameras and a lot of it comes down to what you’re looking for in a camera. If you’re looking for something straightforward with decent video quality out of camera and easier operation, buy the M20. If you’re interested in a camera that can be tweaked and customized and has better audio, go for the Git2.

SJCam M20 Review

Summary:  This is my favorite SJCam I’ve tested to date, with excellent daylight recording and a unique form factor. Aside from some needed improvements with the gyro and low light recording, this is a good option for those looking for a budget action camera.
